"Indian Electricity Markets and their journey towards Integration - A Regulatory Perspective" by Abiha Zaidi

This session introduces India's electricity markets tracing its evolution and examining its structure. From a regulatory perspective, it will explore the market coupling - how the day-ahead markets across regions are integrated and compare India's approach with international models such as ERCOT. It will discuss ancillary services in India and the operational challenges faced. It will highlight how the regulatory framework shapes the market while discussing the real-time and day-ahead market operations and congestion management. 


About the speaker: Abiha Zaidi is a Delhi based lawyer with expertise in electricity law and regulatory matters. Her practice focuses on energy law related disputes and regulatory compliance. She has worked extensively on electricity market issues including transmission charges, regulatory assets, and the jurisdictional framework governing power trading. Abiha brings both litigation experience and regulatory understanding of India’s electricity markets.
