{X}ray of State Finances in India

The Roundtable on {X}ray of State Finances in India brings together researchers and practitioners to explore what detailed, accessible fiscal data can reveal about state finances. We aim to examine state public finances at a granular level, looking across sectors, schemes, and expenditure patterns.

Studying these questions at scale requires access to open, high-resolution public finance data, which we have been working to develop. The roundtable will mark the release of this data through the India Public Finance Portal, alongside presentations of research that uses the fine-grained information from budget documents that this work makes possible.
